Highest rate of drug addiction is with doctors
Vegan doctors are lobbying the government to ban milk from school lunches, claiming it is making children fat and doesn't help strengthen bones.
The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine has filed a petition with the U.S. Department of Agriculture slamming cow's milk and demanding it be replaced on cafeteria menus by calcium-enriched soy milk or even sugary fruit juice.
'It is now well-established that dairy milk is high in sugar, high in fat, and high in animal protein that is harmful to, rather than protective of, bone health,' the D.C.-based organisation states in the document.
According to PCRM, kids are better off eating leafy green vegetables and beans for calcium.
'Children can get all the calcium they need from non-dairy sources, such as beans, tofu, broccoli, kale, collard greens, breads, cereals, and non-dairy, calcium-fortified beverages, without any of the health detriments associated with dairy consumption,' the petition states.
U.S. schools are required by law to provide a serve of milk to their students at every meal.
According to the American Heart Association, kids aged 1-8 need two cups of milk a day and children aged 9-18 need three cups.
But the vegan physicians claim the widely-held belief that milk is good for growing bones is a farce...
