Suffolk sheep
FOLLOWING a five-year break from showing at the Australian Sheep and Wool Show at Bendigo, Andrew and Deb Krieg returned stronger than ever.
The South Australian breeders transported just two Suffolk rams over to Victoria from their Aylesbury Farm stud at Karoonda, SA, but managed to snare the champion ram ribbon on Saturday.
"We've got one of the best line-up of Suffolks we've ever had," Mr Krieg said.
Tasmanian judge Chris Badcock agreed. "He was pretty hard to fault," he said.
The winning July 2011-drop entry was sired by the 2010 Adelaide Royal reserve champion.
The Krieg family are now gearing up for Hamilton Sheepvention next week, where Suffolks are the feature breed.
Other results in the Suffolk judging saw Paul and Kara Brown, Brofort, Marong, pick up champion and reserve champion ewe.
"She was structurally correct and had plenty of meat," Mr Badcock said.
