New ACMC multiplier herd in Spain
A £1.3m 440-sow multiplier herd has been set up in Spain to meet demand for ACMC's prolific AC1 gilt. When it comes on stream this autumn it will be capable of producing over 3,500 breeding gilts a year for sale to Spanish pig farmers.
Although the Spanish pig industry has been in crisis for the last three years, due to poor prices, it is still — along with Germany — the largest producer of pork in the European Union and therefore an important market for British genetics
