New abattoir for Pickstock will create 165 new jobs

Derbyshire-based Pickstock Ashby has applied for planning permission to build the plant on Hortonwood 45. Pickstock Ashby supplies beef products for the national and international retail, commercial and food service markets.
Company bosses say they want to relocate from their current site in Derbyshire to Telford.
No-one was available from Pickstock Ashby to comment this afternoon.
But in its application to Telford & Wrekin Council, the company says: “The relocation to a modern purpose-built 8470 sq m unit is a significant investment for the company and demonstrates its ambitions and commitment to the future expansion of the business.
“The move provides the business with a competitive edge, securing its future and growth.”
Proposals for the site in Telford include building a two-storey detached office, a steel-framed building to house the main facility, a detached lairage office, car parking and service yards.
The proposed site, which would open Monday to Friday from 7am to 5pm, would include controlled access for the livestock to be delivered to the facility.
A separate access is also proposed for staff and visitors, with parking for 155 staff with visitor car parking spaces and further parking for heavy goods vehicles.
Pickstock Ashby says its cattle are sourced mainly by its own procurement staff, dealing directly with farmers and livestock markets.
The application follows consultation with the Homes and Communities Agency, which owns the land, and Telford & Wrekin Council.
