Store cattle
The number of cattle yarded at Casino this week jumped, with the main increase registered across the young cattle categories. Around 1,100 young cattle were offered, with an ample supply of light and medium weight vealers, along with the odd pen of yearlings. Quality was however mixed, with several lots of supplementary fed cattle offered.
The market held firm despite the increase to supplies, with the better finished medium weight vealers selling from 195¢ to 214¢, averaging around 210¢/kg lwt. Interest from restockers for vealer steers was low, resulting in prices 5¢ to 10¢ cheaper, as light weights sold to 215¢ and medium weights to 213¢/kg lwt. The relatively tighter supply of yearling cattle was match by robust butcher demand, with yearling steers reaching 213¢ - up 6¢/kg lwt on the previous week.
