The livestock trade
Numbers at Roma prime remained steady with a mixed quality yarding across the categories.
The majority of the heavy grown steer’s ranged from 175¢ to 198¢ while bullocks topped at 192¢ to average186¢/kg.
Light D3 heifers eased slightly to make 135¢ while the bulk of the medium cows sold from 131¢ to 138¢/kg.
Heavy D4 lines averaged 152¢/kg.
Consignments at Dubbo lifted slightly as quality was plain across the yarding.
Medium weight vealer steers returning to the paddock ranged from 187¢ to 196¢ averaging 191¢ while the bulk of the medium heifers topped at 202¢ to make 185¢/kg.
Medium weight yearling steers to restock averaged 193¢ while medium yearling C3 heifers were relatively unchanged on 208¢/kg.
Heavy C3 grown steers to slaughter strengthened slightly on 201¢ while D2 grown heifers averaged 137¢/kg. Medium D2 cows topped at 144¢ to make 136¢/kg.
Throughput at Bairnsdale was firm with the usual buyers in attendance.
Heavy C4 yearling steers were relatively firm on 204¢ while heavy C3 heifers eased 2¢ on 190¢/kg.
The majority of Bullocks topped at 202¢ to average 190¢ while heavy D2 cow to dairy averaged 128¢/kg.
At the close of Thursday’s market the Eastern Young Cattle Indicator (EYCI) was steady on 376.25¢/kg cwt.
The trade steer indicator was unchanged on 210¢ while medium steers ease slightly to finish on 188¢/kg.
Heavy steers were steady on 194¢ while medium cows lifted 2¢ on 136¢/kg.
The feeder steer indicator was relatively firm on 201¢/kg.
Consignments at Wagga strengthened slightly as quality continues to be mixed across all classes. Light weight 2 score young lambs to restock were steady on 478¢/kg cwt.
Trade weight 3 scores to slaughter strengthened by 30¢ to make 484¢ while the majority of the heavy weights lifted 31¢ on 473¢/kg cwt.
Trade weight old merino lambs were 47¢ higher on 329¢ while heavy 3 score lambs to process lifted 75¢ to finish on 447¢/kg cwt.
Medium weight 3 score merino ewes were slightly stronger on 257¢ while heavy 4 score first cross ewes lifted 7¢ on 213¢/kg.
At the close of Thursdays market the eastern states restocker lamb indicator was 32¢ higher on 435¢/kg cwt.
The Merino lamb indicator strengthened 11¢ on 333¢ while Light lambs lifted 10¢ to settle on 368¢/kg cwt.
Trade weight lambs were 12¢ higher on 434¢ while heavy lambs gained 10¢ on 416¢/kg cwt.
The mutton indicator eased 2¢ to make 242¢/kg cwt.
