We plough the fields and scatter
The ploughing season is under way and over the coming weeks a number of top Scottish ploughmen will compete in international matches.
The Mitchells from Forfar have already despatched their tractors and ploughs for the long journey to Croatia for the match on 14 and 15 September.
Competing a week earlier in Belgium at the European Vintage Championships are Jock Sivewright from Blairgowrie, Bob Blyth from Cupar and Dumfries’s David Kirkpatrick while on 21 and 22 September Inverurie’s Mark Skea and Gordon Beattie of Insch travel to Ceredigion to take part in the Five Nations Contest at the Welsh National..
Dave Carnegie of Laurencekirk and Andy Greenhill of Perth travel to Londonderry for the European Reversible competition on 5 and 6 October and George Mutch of Abernethy, Alex Irving from Kirkcudbright and Ian Bathgate from Dunbar take part in the Six Nations Vintage competition at Scotland’s Annual Championships on 26, 27 and 28 October at Coldstream Mains in the Scottish Borders.
