4056 cattle on offer at Charters Towers

CHARTERS Towers combined agents yarded a total of 4056 cattle at the special store sale held on June 29.

 
The yarding consisted of 1965 steers, 1916 heifers, 50 cows, and 85 cows and calves.


Kate Andison, Braceborough Station, bought a pen of 25 steers at an average of 189c/kg on behalf of her father Malcolm, at the Charters Towers special store sale on June 29.

Store cattle were made up of some very good lines of quality steers and heifers.
 
The yarding was drawn from Einasleigh, Mt Surprise, Mt Garnet, Greenvale, Richmond, Hughenden, and local and coastal areas.
 
Steers to 200kg made 219c to average 190c, steers 200-320kg topped at 232c to average 171c, steers 320-400kg reached 184c to average 163c and those over 400kg peaked at 169c to average 164c.
 
Heifers to 200kg made 179c to average 165c, heifers 200-320kg reached 180c to average 151c, heifers 320-370kg topped at 150c to average 138c and those over 370kg peaked at 150c to average 138c.
 
Mickeys to 450kg sold to 217c to average 175c.
 
A pen of 38 Brahman steers sold by L and L Fegan, Redlands, Balfes Creek, made 232c and weighed 215kg to realise $500/head; and a line of 336 No.1 Brahman-cross steers sold by Kelly's, Richmond, weighed 369kg to average 167c and reach $618.
 
A pen of 43 heifers sold by L and L Fegan, Redlands, Balfes Creek, made 180c, weighed 203kg and returned a good average of $366; and cows and calves sold by Kamarooka Pastoral Co, Southwalk, Charters Towers, returned $710/unit.
