Australian Wool Innovation
Australian Wool Innovation has finally broken its silence on why it won't continue to fund the Information Nucleus Flock project, a genetic research program.
Some grower groups have been critical of AWI for not funding the project and for a lack of transparency in the decision-making process.
AWI now says the project doesn't translate to commercial gains, for the broader wool industry on a mass scale.
Chief executive Stuart McCullough says it's his fault the issue has generated so much angst among producers.
"I certainly instructed my media person who looks after this to go silent on this.
We felt that the rally would sort of peter out in three to four weeks," he said.
"We read it wrongly in terms of the amount of attention it would get."
