Bird flu hits hard
The South African veterinary authorities have reported two new outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza at commercial ostrich farms located in Western Cape Province.
The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received Follow-up Report No. 12 on 28 June 2012.
Out of 5877 susceptible ostriches, 1485 cases were reported. No deaths occurred, and no birds were destroyed and/or slaughtered.
Initially no clinical signs or mortalities were seen.
