$10,000 for Polled Hereford bull at Gracemere

The very well grown, powerful Poll Hereford sire, Kalem Fokker F31, was bred by the Burcher family from Goondiwindi and was a standout lot at Monday’s Roma Poll Hereford Bull Sale.

Kalem Poll Herefords is owned by Ivan and Amanda Burcher in partnership with Amanda’s parents Trevor and Pearl Saal.

Kalem Fokker F31 topped the sale at $10,000 and was sired by one of the stud’s own bulls Kalem Aviator, who was Calf Champion at Beef 2006 and Junior Champion at Brisbane Royal Show the same year.

Fokker F31 placed third in his class at Brisbane Royal this year.

The Fokker F31 bull was the only sire in the sale weighting over 1000kg with an excellent weight for age of 1030kg at 27 months, plus an Eye Muscle Area (EMA) of 135cm sq and a very even fat cover scans of 10mm on the rib and 12mm on the rump.

The bull was purchased after much spirited bidding by commercial Braford breeder Darren Marks, Winvic, Clermont.

The Marks family have been breeding quality Braford cattle in Central Queensland for the past 50 years and plans to use their newly acquired bull in a single sire cow herd to produce their own bulls for use in their commercial cattle operation.

This is first bull purchased by Mr Marks for the Kalem Poll Hereford Stud.

“We run a cattle and grain operation across our 9000 acre property called Winvic at Clermont,” Mr Marks said.

Overall, the 10th Annual Poll Hereford Bull Sale sold 38 head of the 57 bulls offered for a clearance rate of 67 percent and an average price of $3671.

Trefoil Park and Little Trefoil Poll Hereford Stud offered 17 bulls at the sale and sold 14 for an average price of $3893 and a clearance rate of 82pc.

Blair F35 weighted in at 840kg at 22-months-old with an EMA of 128cm sq.
