Spain calls for moratorium on sow stalls
Pig and poultry producers in Spain have repeated their call for more time to comply with the
2013 partial stalls ban and the 2012 battery cage ban.
Egg producers told their farms minister they needed government help, or thousands of poultry farms could be forced to close. The cost of adapting a poultry farm in Spain has been estimated at around £15 per laying hen.
As a result of representation by producers the Spanish government will call for a two-year moratorium on the battery cages ban.
