Farm payments
Farmers who have left REPS3 are being left in limbo.
Minister Simon Coveney must immediately announce the introduction of an AEOS3 scheme to provide some clarity for them, according to IFA rural development chairman Flor McCarthy.
Speaking to the Irish Farmers Journal on Wednesday, McCarthy reminded the Minister of his promise to make an announcement by the end of July or early August on a new scheme with a closing date of end of September.
He must now make good on that commitment.
"Schemes such as AEOS are vital, particularly in the face of a serious deterioration in farm income this year, and farmers must have a meaningful agri-environment scheme available to them," said McCarthy.
"Already, up to 13,000 farmers who were in REPS3 have no have no agri-environment scheme available to them this year but a start-up to a scheme from 1 January 2013 must be the Minister's priority.
''It would at least signal that the Minister had the problem of low income farmers on his agenda."
