Donegal Woodland Owners Society Limited (DWOSL) has announced the launch of a LEADER training scheme.
Designed to cater for the needs of forest owners in the county with forests at the harvesting stage, the training programme will include classroom sessions, field days, individual forest visits and chainsaw training.
"Forest owners will benefit immensely from this course, which is aimed at adding value, increasing the skills and knowledge-base in the sector, and creating local employment," said John Jackson, chairman DWOSL.
The project is being co-funded by the Donegal Local Development Company and Inishowen Development Partnership under the LEADER programme.
"We consider the work of the DWOSL to be an essential element in the growth of Donegal both at a county and national level," said Frank Kelly of the Donegal Local Development Company. "The society provides an essential service to its members both in terms of support and practical business development."
The first classroom session covering timber extraction and processing will be held at Finn Valley Athletic Centre, Stranorlar at noon this Saturday (7 July).
The dates and venues of the other classroom sessions, field days and chainsaw training will be announced at this meeting.
