Roscommon sheep sale
At this new annual sale of Lleyn sheep at Roscommon Livestock Mart on Saturday 15th September 2012, bids were coming in thick and fast.
The two year old ewes from Frank Harrington, Stokestown were the first pen into the ring but the highest priced ewes when selling for €300/head (£242approx) to Breeder M Harney, Rathmore.
In the shearling (hoggets) section the first prize pen from Mary Gordon, Enniscrone sold for €290/head (£234appx) to Michael Rowland, Ballina.
Next in this section was Brendan Donnellan, Ballinasloe when he realised €235/head (£190approx) selling to JK Throughbreds, Celbridge. Ian Bracewell had €220/head and €205/head. John J O’Neil sold the second prize pen for €215/head.
In the ewe lamb section Brendan Donnellan realised the top price twice when selling two pens for €160/head (£129approx) to Robert Tighe, Ballycastle & William Fitzmaurice, Roscommon.
Mr Donnellan also sold a pen to Robin Paget for €150/head (£121approx) with his other pens selling for €145 (x2) and €122.
Robert Clarke, Roscrea sold three pens for €142/head. Brian Matthews had a pen sell for €135/head.
The top priced ram was the third prize ram from M Harney, Rathmore, this shearling ram bred from an Alan McDonald sire sold for €900 (£728approx) to William Tait, Whitegate.
The third prize ram from Simon Brown, Graiguenamanagh bred from a AF Cunningham sire sold for €570 (£461approx) to Robert Tighe, Ballycastle. Felix Byrne, Enniscorthy sold a MH Miller sired ram for €540 (£437approx) to John J O’Neil, Cloonellan.
The first prize ram from Brian Matthews, Killeigh bred from a Robin Darker sire realised €500 (£404) in the ring.
