5,900 cattle on offer at Roma
Throughput at this week’s Roma store cattle sale declined, totalling 5,900 head, after higher numbers were registered in previous week following a run of dry weather.
The yarding was made up predominately of cattle out of the surrounding region, with the recent cooler weather also starting to drive out poorer quality lines.
Feeder buyers were reportedly more active this week on yearling heifers.
Medium and heavy weight steers struggled to maintain the same prices as last week, averaging 170¢/kg lwt and 173¢/kg lwt respectively.
Restockers were also very active across the yearling categories, with the majority of the light weights steady on last week’s prices at 218¢/kg lwt.
Southern processors took the bulk of light weight heifers, with prices easing 1-3¢/kg lwt, while the medium weight lines were met by strong competition from feeders, averaging 185¢/kg lwt.
The majority of cows offered remained steady on last week, despite some isolated higher priced lots.
