Harvesting in the rain
A stop-go harvest, with the winter barley in, oats on the go and most of the wheat yet to come – and a lot of damp straw.
That's the story of the 2012 main grain harvest in the Westcountry so far, when a single hot, dry week saved the day for the winter barley early on.
Now farmers are dodging the rain showers – and hoping tomorrow and the day after will be dry, with a hot sun and stiff breeze.
At Restronguet Barton, near Falmouth, members of the Dale family have been cracking on with the oats, when they can.
