Money for old rope
Around 4,500 farmers that applied for disadvantaged area scheme derogation will know the outcome early next week. The Department is writing to the applicants that they have already processed and continue to work through the remaining applications. Initial indications are that a high percentage of the 10,000 farmers are eligible for derogation. There will be an appeal system set up for farmers who believe they are eligible but were refused. The Department is still accepting late derogation application forms.
It is important to point out that receiving derogation does not automatically trigger payment. Under the 2012 DAS all farmers have to maintain a stocking rate of 0.15 livestock units for six continuous months in addition to maintaining an annual average of 0.15 livestock units calculated over the 12 months of the 2012 scheme year.
This higher requirement on stocking rate could delay payments for some farmers. The Department is still on track to issue DAS payments in late September with payments likely to go out from September 26.
